Jasmin Nunes serves as the writer, director, and producer for her debut film, Ackee and Saltfish. A New York City native based in London, she is drawn to tell a rich tapestry of stories: from unspoken truths of inner-city life to commentaries of surrealism. Being of Jamaican, Italian, and Irish descent, she recognizes the inequity of Black representation in filmmaking and the lack of variation in the stories that are told.
The current watershed period in the film industry is illuminating the need for a wider spectrum of stories to be seen and for new creative perspectives. She vows to change the way films regard casts of people of color and bring regularity of diverse backgrounds seen on film screens through all genres.
